The Beirut Museum of Modern Art (BeMA) is a new museum that will open in 2023, and will be an anchor along Beirut’s « museum mile » in the Mathaf area. Part of BeMA’s mission is to build a committed and engaged civic society through cultural and educational programs that involve diverse communities. In addition to housing an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art, the museum will create opportunities for the production of new works through artist residencies, commissions and cultural partnerships. Committed to nurturing a dynamic and creative civil society, it will also host cultural and educational programs. Leading up to its opening, BeMA has been engaging audiences through vibrant outreach programs. These programs include residencies, workshops, commissions, publications and research initiatives, all of which are rooted in the strong belief of the transformative power of the arts.
BeMA’s first participation within BAF 2019 highlights two of its major ongoing projects:
• The Artists in Residency in Lebanese Public Schools Program
• BeMA’s Restoration Lab
