Beirut Art Week

From September 18 to 25, 2018, BEIRUT ART WEEK continued its annual tradition of bringing contemporary art to the heart of Beirut. 

In 2018, this unique offsite program included works that highlighted the cultural heritage of Beirut, displayed in public spaces and in the city’s most prestigious shops.

This artistic walk showcased important artworks of Lebanese and internaional artists to offer a rich and varied program.

Ursula Salvador, with USC Gallery – Miami, presented new works of the Mexican artist Bibiana Domit, created especially for BEIRUT ART WEEK. The store Elie Saab organized an exhibition dedicated to the Franco-German photographer Cathleen Naundorf. With its pop-up store, Pik’d took the opportunity of BEIRUT ART WEEK to launch its showroom dedicated to unique pieces made by ceramists coming from all around the world. 

Also part of the program: “In the Heart of Beirut”, a “ciné-concert” on the terraces Opera Gallery, in collaboration with the Lebanese Film Festival. The screening of exclusive archive footage of Beirut was accompanied by a live performance by international musician SIG

BEIRUT ART WEEK was also partner of must-see exhibitions whose openings are on September 18: 

6pm: “Obsessions” was a photo and video exhibition of the Franco-Lebanese director, producer & photographer Philippe Aractingi, produced by Nadine Zaccour and showed at 3Beirut (Omar Daouk Street, Downtown). 

7pm: “Building with Fire” was an exhibition dedicated to the work made with fire of Jean Boghossian and showed in the old L’Orient-Le Jour building (Beirut Souks). This show was curated by Bruno Corà and organized by Naila Kettaneh Kunigk & L’Association Libanaise de Festivals Culturels

7:30pm: in anticipation of the opening of Arthaus GemmayzehNabil & Zoé Debs organized a private viewing of contemporary art from South America, curated by Michel el Daher

Last but not least, in partnership with BEIRUT ART WEEK, La Nocturne des Galeries took place on September 18 from 7pm to 10pm (download the program here)
